Floating Mode#

Floating Mode displays your apps in a separate floating bar that appears and disappears on demand.

How it works#

Press a keyboard shortcut and a floating bar appears with all your apps. It auto-hides when you click away or press Escape.

Setting up Floating Mode#

Hotkey: Toggle between bar positions with ⌥ + ⌘ + M Hide and show the floating bar on demand with ⌥ + ⌘ + B

Settings:

  1. Open ExtraBar
  2. Go to Settings (⚙)
  3. Under Position, select the Floating Bar card.

Screen position#

Choose where the floating bar sits on screen. Open ExtraBar → Settings (⚙) → Position → Screen Position:

  • Top — Horizontal bar along the top of the screen (default)
  • Top Left / Top Right — Anchored to a top corner
  • Left / Right — Anchored to a screen edge, with items arranged vertically

Side placements are currently marked BETA.

When Top is selected, an additional Top Alignment control appears with Left, Center, and Right options.

Multiple monitors#

When you have more than one display connected, extra options appear under Position:

  • Show on All Screens — Display the floating bar on every connected monitor simultaneously.
  • Display picker — When "Show on All Screens" is off, choose which screen the bar appears on. The primary display is labeled.

These options only appear when multiple displays are detected.

Hide on fullscreen#

When enabled, the floating bar automatically hides when a fullscreen app is active and reappears when you exit fullscreen.

Toggle this in ExtraBar → Settings (⚙) → Position → Visibility.
