Launcher Themes#
Launcher Themes change how Launcher Mode looks: the panel material, colors, fonts, row style, border effects, 3D depth, and the background drawn behind the panel. ExtraBar ships 38 built-in themes, and you can customize any of them or build your own from scratch.
Open ExtraBar → Settings (⚙) → Launcher Themes, or click Themes in the footer of an open Launcher panel.
Built-in themes#
The gallery groups themes by category. Use the chips above the grid to filter it; All shows every theme, and each chip shows how many themes it holds:
- Glass — System, Liquid Glass, Crystal, Graphite Glass, Midnight Glass, Sunset Glass, Ocean Glass, Frost
- Terminal — Dracula, Catppuccin Mocha, Catppuccin Latte, Tokyo Night, Nord, Gruvbox Dark, Solarized Dark, Solarized Light, One Dark, Rosé Pine, Kanagawa, Everforest Dark, Night Owl, GitHub Dark, Ayu Mirage, Synthwave '84, Monokai

- 3D — Holo Deck, Obsidian Slab, Glass Stack, Prism
- My Themes — Themes you created, customized, or imported
System is the default and follows your macOS appearance.
Choosing a theme#
Click a theme card to apply it. The large preview at the top of the page shows the active theme, and the Launcher updates the next time it opens. Try It opens the Launcher with the current theme when Launcher is the active display mode.
The Position → Launcher section also shows the current theme name with a Choose Theme button that opens this page.
Customizing a theme#
Built-in themes cannot be edited directly. Click Customize on a built-in theme to copy it into My Themes and open the editor; your own themes open with Edit. The preview follows every change live. Revert restores the theme as it was when you opened the editor, and Done returns to the gallery.
The editor is organized in sections:
- Name — The theme's display name
- Surface — The panel Material (Liquid Glass, Clear Glass, Frosted, or Solid), a Tint over the material (or a Custom Panel Color for Solid) as a solid color or a Linear, Radial, or Angular gradient with its opacity, corner radius, border width (0 hides the border), Custom Border Colors (two or more make a gradient), border Glow, Border Animation (None, Beam, or Pulse), and shadow
- Colors — Appearance (System, Light, or Dark) and the Text, Secondary Text, Accent, Selection, Selected Text, Match Highlight, Dividers, Key Hints, and Decoration colors. Any color can follow the system or use your own. ExtraBar shows contrast ratios and warns when text may be hard to read on the chosen panel.
- Typography — Font (System, Rounded, Mono, or Serif), search field size, an optional Prompt Symbol that replaces the magnifier, and a terminal-style Block Caret
- Rows — Row Layout (Standard, Terminal, or Cards), Selection style (Fill, Outline, Glow, Block, or Glass), row corner radius, and section dividers
- 3D Depth — Turn on 3D Depth to give the panel thickness, then adjust Tilt and toggle Perspective Open, Layered Slabs, Specular Highlight, and Floating Rows
- Background behind Launcher — Blur, a solid or gradient fill with its opacity, a pattern (Dots, Grid, Lines, Scanlines, Hexagons, Waves, Topography, Circuit, Aurora, Synthwave, or Noise) with its color, opacity, and scale, a Vignette, and slow Ambient Motion
The Liquid Glass and Clear Glass materials and the Glass selection style need macOS 26; earlier macOS versions show Frosted and Fill instead. Animated borders, 3D motion, and ambient motion are turned off when Reduce Motion is enabled in System Settings.
Background behind Launcher#
Show background at the top of the page (also under Position → Launcher) draws the active theme's blur, colors, and patterns over the active display while the Launcher is open. The switch applies to every theme; each theme defines what the background contains.
Managing your themes#
Right-click a theme card for its actions:
- Customize (built-in themes) or Edit (your themes) — Open the editor
- Duplicate — Make a copy of one of your themes in My Themes. For a built-in theme, use Customize instead.
- Export — Save the theme as an
.extrabarthemefile to share it - Delete — Remove a theme from My Themes after confirming. Built-in themes cannot be deleted.
Use New Theme to start a fresh theme in My Themes, and Import to add an .extrabartheme file someone shared with you. Imported themes land in My Themes.
