Widgets#

Widgets are special bar items that go beyond launching apps. Use them to run actions with a click, group items into folders, access bookmarks, or switch DockFlow presets directly from the bar.

Adding a widget#

  1. Open ExtraBar and click Manage on a preset
  2. Click the Add (+) button
  3. Choose Add Action Widget, Add Folder Widget, Add Bookmark Widget, or Add DockFlow Widget

The same menu holds Add Apps and Add Folder for regular apps and folders. All widgets have a custom name, icon, and icon color.

Action widget#

An action widget puts a single action on your bar as a clickable icon. When Run on Click is enabled (the default), clicking the widget executes the action immediately — no menu needed.

Configure an action widget:

  • Action — Choose any action from the action library (Open, Deep Link, Run Script, etc.). Edit Action Settings opens the action's own parameters.
  • Target — Optionally choose the app, file, or folder the action works on. Some actions need a target before the widget can run.
  • Run on Click — Execute the action on click instead of opening a menu

Folder widget#

A folder widget groups multiple items behind a single icon. Click it to open a popover with all the items inside.

Click Add Item to open the item library. A folder can contain:

  • Application — Add apps with their own action menus
  • Actions — Add standalone actions, searchable by name in the library
  • Bookmarks — Add a Shiori bookmark list, optionally filtered by folder or tags (shown when a Shiori account is connected)
  • Divider — Add a separator line or a titled section with an optional symbol and color

Manage folder items:

  • Drag to reorder
  • Click the gear icon to configure an item
  • Use the item's options menu to Duplicate it, Hide from Widget Menu (hidden items stay in the folder but are not shown), Move/Copy to another location, or Remove it. Actions also offer Copy Action Deep Link.
  • Use Select mode to multi-select items and move, copy, show, hide, or delete them in bulk — items can be moved or copied between apps, folders, and widgets

Apps inside a folder can have their own custom action menus, just like top-level bar items.

Bookmark widget#

A bookmark widget shows your Shiori bookmarks in a popover with search and filtering. Requires a Shiori account.

Display options:

  • Show Search Bar — Toggle the search field
  • Max Items — Limit how many bookmarks appear (5 to 50, in steps of 5; 20 by default)
  • Sort By — Recent, Name, or URL, in Ascending or Descending order

Behavior options:

  • Show Favicons — Display site icons
  • Show Folder Badges — Show each bookmark's folder
  • Show Tag Badges — Show each bookmark's tags
  • Show Pinned First — Keep pinned bookmarks at the top

Filter options:

  • Folders — Show bookmarks from specific folders only
  • Tags — Show bookmarks with specific tags only
  • Saved Filter — Use a saved filter from Shiori (shown when you have saved filters)

DockFlow widget#

The DockFlow widget lists DockFlow presets, shows the active preset, and can switch presets when the connection has permission. It shows the DockFlow logo in one of six styles (Color, Monochrome, Dark, White, Simple Black, or Simple White) or an icon of your choice, and can ask before switching presets or show app counts and details for each preset.

It uses ExtraBar's local Talk integration. DockFlow is found automatically; connect it from the widget editor or under Settings → Talk Integrations.
