Notch Mode#

Notch Mode anchors your bar inside the display notch area at the top of the screen. On MacBooks with a notch, the bar splits around the physical notch. On displays without one, ExtraBar creates a centered "virtual notch" area instead.

Setting up Notch Mode#

  1. Open ExtraBar → Settings (⚙) → Position
  2. Select the Notch card

You can also toggle it from the ExtraBar app menu with Enable Notch Mode / Disable Notch Mode (⌘N), or with the Toggle Notch Mode hotkey (⌥ + ⌘ + N by default).

Options#

When Notch is selected, these options appear below the position picker:

  • Show on All Screens — Display the notch bar on every connected monitor. Shown only when more than one display is connected. Displays with a physical notch use the split layout; the others use a centered virtual notch.
  • Display — When "Show on All Screens" is off, this row names the screen the notch bar uses. ExtraBar prefers a display with a physical notch and falls back to the focused or primary display; there is no picker here.
  • Background — Choose Solid or Floating for the notch bar background.
  • Size — Small, Medium, or Large. This is the same Bar Size setting as in Appearance.
  • Auto-hide — The bar hides automatically and reappears when you hover the notch area. Auto-hide is exclusive to Notch Mode.
