Quick Start#

After you activate your license, ExtraBar opens an onboarding window that helps you pick your apps, add editor project folders and a Figma project, style your bar, and choose between the Floating Bar and the Menu Bar. On macOS 13 or later it also offers an optional AI Assistant setup step. You can skip any of this and set everything up manually with the steps below.

Create your first action#

1. Open ExtraBar in your menu bar
2. Click Manage on the preset you want to use (Use the default to get started)
3. Click + Add and choose Add Apps
4. Choose an Application
5. Click the item's menu settings icon (⚙)
6. Click + Add to open the Action Library and choose an action

Some actions (for example deep links) require further customization. See Deep Links section for guidance.

Global hotkeys#

ExtraBar is built for quick keyboard navigation.

Open ExtraBar → Settings (⚙) → Hotkeys for more information

Important Hotkeys:

1. Activate ExtraBar Focus to interact with applications (⌥ + ⌘ + F)
2. Toggle between Floating Bar and Menu Bar (⌥ + ⌘ + P)
3. Hide and show apps/floating bar on demand (⌥ + ⌘ + B)
4. Toggle Notch Mode (⌥ + ⌘ + N)
5. Open the Bookmark Manager (⇧ + ⌘ + B)

Hotkeys are fully customizable. In Notch Mode, use the Focus shortcut — the Show/Hide shortcut is ignored there.

If you choose Launcher Mode, the Show/Hide and Focus shortcuts open and focus the Launcher instead of a bar window.

Keyboard Navigation#

Once ExtraBar Focus is on:

• Arrow keys — Navigate through apps and menus
• Number and letter keys (1-9, A-Z) — Select items and actions quickly
• Enter — Open the selected item's menu or execute the selected action
• Escape — Close the menu

• Launch an app
• Open a specific Slack channel
• Join a recurring Zoom meeting
