General Settings#
Open ExtraBar → Settings (⚙) → General for app-wide options: how ExtraBar starts, what a click does, screen-capture privacy, how the ExtraBar app menu is shown, and which Dock and menu bar icons ExtraBar uses.
Startup#
- Start on Login — Launch ExtraBar automatically when you log in to your Mac. Off by default.
- Show App on Launch — Open the ExtraBar settings window when the app starts. On by default. Turn it off to let ExtraBar start silently into your bar.
Click behavior#
Left Click controls what happens when you click an item in the bar:
- Open Menu — Show the item's action menu, like a right-click. This is the default.
- Launch App — Launch or activate the application directly.
See Keyboard Navigation for how click behavior interacts with keyboard navigation.
Privacy#
Hide from Screen Capture excludes the floating bar and its popovers from screenshots, screen recordings, and screen sharing (for example in Zoom). Menu bar icons are not affected. Off by default.
App menu#
Display chooses how ExtraBar's own menu icon behaves:
- Show separately — The ExtraBar app menu stays as its own icon (default)
- Hide — Hides the app menu icon; Settings stay reachable by right-clicking the bar or any icon
- Merge into bar — Combines the app menu and your bar items into one icon
See Collapse Mode for how merging interacts with Collapse Mode.
Dock icon and menu bar icon#
The Dock Icon and Menu Bar Icon sections pick the icon ExtraBar shows in the Dock and in the macOS menu bar. The available variants are listed in Appearance.
